New Delhi: Amidst the scorching heat, record temperatures and prolonged drought, the massive fire that broke out in the forests of southern France has made the situation extremely serious. This fire, which broke out on Thursday in the Aude and Herault regions of France, took a huge form in no time and engulfed about 900 hectares of forest area. Due to dry weather and strong winds, the fire is rapidly moving towards residential and tourist areas, which has increased the concerns of the administration.
Emergency rescue operations and protective measures
To control this fire that broke out in the forests, rescue work is going on on a war footing. Considering the seriousness of the disaster, the local administration has deployed more than 800 firefighters, 150 fire vehicles and four special water bomber aircraft on the front. Due to hilly and rough roads, firefighters are facing huge difficulties in extinguishing the fire at the ground level, due to which aerial operations are being resorted to.
several fire incidents
Incidents of fire were reported at two different places in the neighboring areas, which were brought under control after a lot of effort. However, the smoldering fire at many places in the affected areas has still not completely subsided and there remains a danger of sparks breaking out again. In view of security, the administration has evacuated people from a popular resort located near Tet River and its surrounding camps to safe places. All lifeguard stations in the river have been closed and local citizens and tourists have been strictly advised not to swim in the river.
More than 7,000 fire incidents this season
French Prime Minister Sebastian Lecornu has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in the country. He said in a statement that since the start of the summer season this year, more than 7,000 incidents of forest fires have been recorded. In these accidents, till now a total of more than 8,700 hectares of green area has been completely burnt to ashes. The Prime Minister has warned that climate change and the current adverse weather conditions are increasing this danger further.
Danger increased due to strong winds
Alain Buquet, prefect of the Aude region, informed the media that this entire area adjacent to the Mediterranean coast has always been considered extremely sensitive to forest fires due to its geographical structure. At present, the main goal of the fire department is to control the fire as soon as possible so that the strong winds blowing in this area do not spread the flames to new areas.
Meteorological Department issued alert
The Meteorological Department has also issued a scary warning for the coming days. According to the forecast, there is no possibility of rain in the area for the next few days, while the temperature will remain high and drought will persist. In such a situation, the dry and strong winds of the Mediterranean region can further inflame this forest fire, due to which the coming days are going to be more challenging for the firefighters.
