After launching a nationwide citizen movement for early diagnosis and timely treatment of head and neck cancer, the Head & Neck Cancer Institute of India (HNCII) has taken the first step towards putting the concept of this campaign into practice. As a part of this initiative, HNCII Founder and President Dr. Sultan A. Pradhan led a two-day interactive program in Gorakhpur on August 22 and 23. It brought together local healthcare professionals and relevant stakeholders to increase access to quality and timely cancer treatment in healthcare-deprived areas of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The initiative was attended by like-minded partners, healthcare experts and representatives of social service organizations. Difficulties faced by patients in accessing cancer treatment were discussed and measures to strengthen the regional cancer treatment system were brainstormed.
During the discussion special emphasis was placed on early diagnosis, capacity building and collaborative treatment. The need to strengthen the local medical network and provide specialist medical services to patients near their homes was also discussed. This initiative in Gorakhpur is the first step in HNCII's broader efforts. HNCII seeks to build a more efficient cancer care system by linking expert medical knowledge with local healthcare providers and community stakeholders. Further activities and cooperation process will continue on this basis in the coming months.
Efforts to bring cancer treatment closer to patients
Patients in healthcare-deprived areas often have to travel long distances to large cities or metros for specialized cancer treatment. This adds financial, managerial and psychological stress to an already difficult treatment process.
This initiative of HNCII seeks to bridge this gap by increasing collaboration between specialized cancer treatment centers, regional healthcare organizations and social organizations. The initiative aims to provide essential support to patients in the entire process of cancer treatment from early diagnosis, screening to timely treatment and subsequent routine maintenance through knowledge sharing, capacity building and collaboration.
Speaking about this initiative, the founder and president of HNCII Dr. Sultan A. Pradhan said, “Quality cancer treatment should not be dependent on the geographical area where one lives. Even patients in small towns and underserved areas in terms of healthcare have the right to get proper expert guidance, timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment. They should not have to bear additional financial and psychological burdens by moving away from home. Through this initiative, we aim to create a stronger link between expert medical knowledge and the local healthcare system. Based on the discussions and cooperation generated during the visit to Gorakhpur, HNCII will implement further activities. This will focus on strengthening regional medical capacity, promoting timely diagnosis and widening access to specialist cancer treatment.
