Desk. Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said that in a rapidly changing and competitive world, India's role as a stable and reliable country is important. He said that in a multipolar world system, countries will have to give priority to stability, cooperation and shared consensus along with their national interests. Addressing an Asia Society event in New York, Jaishankar shared his perspective on multipolarity in foreign policy. He said that India should establish its identity as a country on which other countries can trust and which can become a stabilizing force in the rapidly changing global environment.
Jaishankar said that a country's stable and trustworthy image makes it attractive to international partners. Promoting good relations and common interests with neighboring countries also plays an important role in maintaining global balance. He said that the more emphasis is placed on diversity and shared consensus, the better a balancing framework can be created. Countries need to combine their national interests with a long-term perspective, sustainability and the ability to assess future circumstances.
The Indian Foreign Minister said that no one wants a situation of anarchy and conflict in the world, as it poses serious risks to the global economy and trade. He said that the economies of big trading countries are affected by instability. In such a situation, countries will look for ways of stability to protect their trade and economic interests.
According to Jaishankar, the world can move towards a mixed path of cooperation and competition instead of any single system. Jaishankar said that the world has become more competitive than before and in the current circumstances a new system will evolve. Under this, new dialogues, new agreements and new forms of relations will emerge between the countries.
Jaishankar said that in the future, relations between countries will not be tied to any fixed structure, rather a new structure of global relations will develop based on the interests and mutual understanding of different countries. The External Affairs Minister said that countries' own interests, their understanding and their desire to keep their lives stable are the main forces driving international relations forward. He said that the world is moving in this direction and India is already seeing this change in some of its international relations.
