A shocking case of rape has come to light involving a student living in a paying guest (PG) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The student, who was studying interior design, went for a walk on the PG’s terrace around 10 p.m. at that time. At that time, the security guard allegedly tied a wire around her neck and raped her. According to media reports, the student was taken to the hospital and is undergoing treatment. The victim is studying interior design in the city and lives as a paying guest in a flat in the society.
Anandnagar police have identified the accused as 27-year-old Dharam Singh, a resident of Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested by police in Hebatpur on Sunday morning. He had been working as a security guard at the society for only six days.
Student brutalized by tying a wire around her neck
The student went to the society’s rooftop for a walk around 10 p.m. on Saturday night. The accused approached her and allegedly attempted to rape her. When she resisted, he assaulted her and overpowered her, tying her neck with a wire. He then raped her. According to police, the accused strangled her with the wire so tightly that she could not scream for help. After the incident, the accused fled with her mobile phone and locked the student on the rooftop. The student later called for help. People living on the lower floors heard her and pulled her out. The student was taken to the hospital and the police were informed of the incident.
Police investigating
CCTV footage shows the accused going up to the rooftop in the elevator around the time of the incident. According to the police, the accused had been working for various security agencies for the past four years. He had only been working at this society for about six days. Police reported that the student’s condition is currently stable, but she is in significant shock. They stated that the student has been living in Ahmedabad for approximately two years for her studies.
Police stated that the student tried to raise an alarm, but the accused overpowered her and attempted to strangle her with a wire. Police are now recording the student’s statement and attempting to determine whether the accused knew her daily activities and arrival and departure times. Police will also question the security agency and investigate whether the accused’s police verification and registration were completed properly.
