He spoke to the media on Thursday after a meeting on the campaign against cow slaughter at the police lines. He stated that such incidents had occurred in the Ganj and Swar police station areas during the month of Sawan.
Controversy over this statement
The Rampur SP stated on camera that, according to Islam, eating the meat of any animal that hurts someone’s religious sentiments is prohibited. A true Muslim would never do such a thing. Those who do this are either not Muslims or are extremely wicked. It is my job to deal with such wicked people.
Meeting with Religious Leaders
The SP further stated that he would hold a meeting with the Mutawallis and religious leaders in Rampur. We will appeal to them to take steps to prevent such incidents. Officials announced a verification campaign of people allegedly involved in cow slaughter cases over the past 10 years. They have instructed police stations to prepare files on such individuals, including bail conditions and information about those who provided bail.
Clarification issued after controversy…
After the video went viral on social media, the SP issued a clarification. He said that he had said this while responding to media questions about cow slaughter. Clarifying, he said that Darul Uloom Deoband has repeatedly stated that killing animals that hurt the religious sentiments of people of other religions is not right and has declared it “haram.”
