In such a situation, it is important to know how many mobile numbers are issued from your Aadhaar. If a SIM is issued in your name without your knowledge, it can be misused for cyber fraud or other illegal activities. With the help of TAFCOP portal of Department of Telecommunications i.e. DoT, you can check the information of mobile connection issued in your name in a few minutes.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has provided the facility to mobile users to get information about the connections issued in their name through TAFCOP i.e. Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management & Consumer Protection portal. With its help, it can be found out how many mobile numbers are active in your name. This investigation is also important because if someone else has issued a SIM using your identity, it can be used for cyber fraud, fake bank accounts or other illegal activities.
To check mobile numbers issued in your name, first open the official website of TAFCOP. Here enter your current mobile number and fill the captcha visible on the screen. After this click on Request OTP. OTP will come on your mobile number. After entering OTP, login to the portal.
After logging in, a list of mobile connections issued in your name will appear on the screen. This may also include mobile numbers of different telecom companies. Now look at this list carefully and check whether all the numbers present in it belong to you or your family members or not.
If a number appears in the list which has not been issued by you and about which you have no information, then the Not my number option can be selected for it. At the same time, if a number was yours earlier but you no longer use it, then the Not required option can be used. For the number which is yours and is currently in use, you will have to select the Required option.
After submitting the request, the matter is investigated and action is taken as per the procedure of the concerned telecom operator and department. If an unknown mobile connection appears in your name, it is important to report it instead of ignoring it.
Periodically checking the mobile connections issued in your name keeps you informed that no additional SIMs have been issued using your identity. This can help reduce the risk of identity misuse, fake accounts and mobile number fraud.
