No more Jantar Mantar, three new sites identified for protest in Delhi
Information has come to light that Jantar Mantar has been removed from the list of designated places for organizing protests and dharnas in Delhi. Instead, three new places in the capital have been earmarked for the demonstration. Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar has issued a standing order in this regard. According to the order, now Ramlila Maidan, Burari Maidan and CBD Maidan have been earmarked for holding protests and dharnas. These include Ramlila Maidan in Central Delhi, Burari Maidan in North Delhi and CBD Maidan in East Delhi.
According to the order, the Union Home Ministry had constituted a committee with the aim of exploring alternatives to the existing designated protest site and reviewing suitable places for the protest. Based on the recommendations of the committee, Jantar Mantar has been de-notified from the list of sites designated for protests. The order said that now three new places have been earmarked for holding demonstrations and dharnas. These include Ramlila Maidan in Central Delhi, Burari Maidan in North Delhi and CBD Maidan in East Delhi.
According to Delhi Police, detailed and revised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be issued separately for organizing protests and dharnas at these three designated sites. This order has been issued as a partial amendment to the previous standing order issued on 28 April 2022.
