Abhishek Sharma hits record 30-ball T20I hundred; see list of top 5

Indian opener Abhishek Sharma on Thursday (September 17) smashed a record 30-ball hundred against Afghanistan in the third T20I in Delhi.

Left-hander Abhishek now holds the record for the fastest hundred by a Test-playing nation (full member of ICC) batter and is the overall third-quickest in the T20I format.

The fastest T20I hundred is off 27 balls, by Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan. The second-quickest is by Muhammad Fahad of Turkey, off 29 balls.

Abhishek also broke Rohit Sharma’s Indian record. Rohit had held the record for India with a ton off 35 balls.

After Afghanistan won the toss and invited India to bat at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Abhishek blazed his way to a memorable century, his third in T20Is.

He took just 16 balls to reach his first 50 and in the next 14 balls reached the three-figure milestone. Abhishek and Sanju Samson raised a century partnership for the first wicket.

Abhishek was finally dismissed by Rashid Khan for 108 off 34 balls with 9 fours and 11 sixes.
