Abu Dhabi Police Warning: Using mobile while driving and rubbernecking will be expensive, heavy fine will be imposed
Abu Dhabi Police has issued an important warning to drivers. Police have said that while driving, keep your full attention on the road and stay away from things like mobile. If a driver uses a mobile phone even when the traffic is stopped or slows down the vehicle to see an accident, then strict action will be taken against him.

According to UAE traffic rules, holding a mobile phone while driving can now prove costly. If a driver uses the phone to make calls, send messages, use social media or take photos, he will be fined 800 dirhams and 4 black points will be imposed on his driving license.
Abu Dhabi Police is now using smart cameras with AI for this purpose. These cameras can detect even at very high speeds whether the driver is using the phone or not. Even if the phone is in a holder and the driver is using it, a fine may still apply.
Rubbernecking and other rule violations
It is often seen that people slow down or stop their vehicles to see an accident on the road, which is called ‘rubbernecking’. Police have made it clear that doing so is unsafe and causes traffic jams, delaying the arrival of ambulances and police. A fine of 1,000 dirhams will be imposed for this.
Apart from this, there is a provision of heavy fine for other mistakes on the road:
- Road stop: Blocking the road at the time of an accident will attract a fine of 1,000 dirhams.
- Ambulance stopping: Those blocking the path of ambulance will be fined 3,000 dirhams, 6 black points and the vehicle will be confiscated for 30 days.
- make video: It is illegal to make a video of a road accident or post it on social media. For this, there can be a fine of 1.5 lakh to 5 lakh dirhams and 6 months in jail.
