Accused of suppressing the voice of opposition in Parliament, Mallikarjun Kharge said – “This is an attempt to destroy democracy”

Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha regarding the ongoing CJP (Cockroach Janata Party) agitation in the national capital Delhi and issues related to students during the monsoon session of Parliament. Mallikarjun Kharge Made a scathing attack on the central government. He alleged that the government is trying to suppress the voice of the opposition and this is against democratic values.

Mallikarjun Kharge said while talking to the media that the opposition was demanding that serious issues related to students, especially the NEET paper leak episode and the incidents that happened during the agitation, should be discussed in detail in the Parliament. He said that after the discussion, the Union Home Minister should have given a statement in the House and the leaders of all the parties should have got an opportunity to express their views, but the government did not allow this to happen.

Kharge said that the opposition wanted to present before the country the problems of the students and the incidents that happened during the movement, but they were not given the opportunity to express their views. He alleged that the government is trying to suppress the voice of the opposition in Parliament, which is a move to weaken democracy.

He said that in his six decade long political career, he has witnessed many parliamentary proceedings including Assembly, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, but he has never seen such an atmosphere before. According to him, Parliament is the highest platform of democratic dialogue, where all parties should get equal opportunity to express their views.

The Congress President also raised questions on the police action taken against the protesters during the CJP movement. He asked why students and youth were lathicharged and why they were not given the right to express their views. He alleged that the government is trying to suppress the voice of opposition.

Kharge also said that the opposition faced difficulties in moving freely in the Parliament complex as well. According to him, stopping MPs in this manner is not in accordance with democratic traditions. He said that if the public representatives do not get the opportunity to present their views, then the spirit of the democratic system will be affected.

He alleged that the government is creating such an environment in the country which creates fear among the protesters. He said that instead of suppressing the voices of students, youth and opposition parties, the government should listen to their concerns and hold meaningful discussions on sensitive issues.

The Congress President said that there is a need to rise above politics and seriously consider issues related to the future of students. He urged the government to hold an open discussion in the Parliament and while maintaining the dignity of democratic institutions, all parties should be given an opportunity to express their views.

After these statements of Kharge, there are indications that the political conflict between the ruling party and the opposition will further intensify during the monsoon session of Parliament. At the same time, political debate continues inside and outside the Parliament regarding the issues related to CJP movement and students.
