‘Run quickly…’ CM Shubhendu’s big ultimatum on illegal Bangladeshis

Holding Centers in West Bengal: Action against infiltrators has started in West Bengal. Holding centers have started here, after which the movement on the border has also intensified. In this regard, Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari has announced a three-tier policy of ‘Detect, Detain and Deport’ i.e. identify, detain and expel from the country. To implement this new policy, the State Home and Hill Affairs Department has issued instructions to all the District Magistrates and senior police officers.

First holding center operational in Malda

This big step of the government is actually based on an old instruction of the Union Home Ministry which was issued on May 2 last year. In this directive, all the states and union territories of the country were asked to create holding centers for illegal Bangladeshi citizens and Rohingyas. The Bengal government has also started implementing this rapidly. The first holding center has been started in Malda, the border district of the state and 9 people have been taken into custody there, including 3 women and children. According to senior officials of the police administration, this center has started functioning fully and the legal documents of the arrested people are being verified.

What is the current situation?

A video has also surfaced on social media X. In this, Bengal Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari is seen telling the Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in the state, “Run away as soon as possible, otherwise the government will do whatever has to be done.”

Apart from this, another video has surfaced in which more than 100 Bangladeshi citizens, allegedly living illegally in Bengal, are seen gathering at Hakimpur check post in North 24 Parganas to return to Bangladesh.

It is being told that this gathering took place following a directive related to identified illegal immigrants. CM Shubhendu Adhikari had recently said that Bangladeshis living illegally should be identified and handed over to the police, after which BSF will help in their return.

In fact, when the SIR process started, similar scenes were seen. Now, after the opening of the holding centers and the BJP government’s tough stance against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, there are reports of people gathering again in the border area.

BJP MLA’s reaction

Here, the statement of BJP MLA Vishal Lama has come to light regarding illegal Bangladeshi immigrants gathering at Hakimpur border. He said, ‘The previous government had given shelter to illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas because they were their vote bank. Now they are realizing the cost of entering the country without proper documents.

Many of those whose names have been removed from the SIR are now absconding or being deported from the country… The surprise investigation will reveal many more people who were given shelter by the previous government… Earlier TMC used to rig elections, steal votes; The public hardly got a chance to cast their vote as per their wish.
