Amritsar- Under the guidelines of Punjab Government and orders of Amritsar Development Authority (ADA) Chief Administrator Nitish Kumar Jain, IAS and Additional Chief Administrator Inayat, PCS, the District Town Planner (Regulatory) Wing took the major action against illegal colonies.
The team of District Town Planner (Regulatory) Wing took action against the illegal colony being developed in front of Ekam Garden in village Wadala Bhittewad on Ramtirth Road, the illegal colony being developed by the name of Shiva Paradise in village Dhaulkalan and the illegal colony named New Urban Estate (Extension) in village Kala Ghanupur and demolished the development works done there.
The District Town Planner said that as per the instructions of the government to prevent unauthorized development in future, the illegal colonies being developed at these three places were stopped by issuing notices under the Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Act (PAPRA)-1995. Despite this, development work continued by the colony owners, due to which demolition action was taken on 11 September 2026 on the orders of higher officials.
He said that demolition action had already been taken against Shiva Paradise developed in village Dhaulkalan on March 5, 2026 and against the illegal colony developed in front of Ekam Garden in village Wadala Bhittewad on May 14, 2026. Despite this, the colony owners had started development work again. Therefore, the new development works done on the spot were also demolished.
Officials clarified that according to the amendment of Papara Act-1995 made in the year 2024, punishment ranging from 5 to 10 years and a fine ranging from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 5 crore can be imposed against the persons who cut illegal colonies. A letter is also being written to the police department on the basis of revenue records for necessary action against the concerned land owners and colony developers.
The regulatory wing of ADA has appealed to the general public that before purchasing a plot in unapproved illegal colonies, they must check the approval obtained from the PUDA Department of the concerned colony. People have been advised to check the information related to illegal colonies available on the website of Amritsar Development Authority before purchasing a plot, so that they do not suffer loss of money and property and do not have to face any problem in future. Apart from this, an appeal has been made to the people to ensure that they obtain necessary approvals from the Pudda Department before starting any kind of construction work at any place in the district.
