ADR Rajya Sabha MPs Report: The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has recently released a report on the financial condition of Rajya Sabha MPs and the criminal cases registered against them. Many important facts have been mentioned in the report. This report is based on the analysis of affidavits submitted to the Election Commission by 226 MPs out of the current 233 members of Rajya Sabha.

According to the report, more than 90 percent of Rajya Sabha MPs are crorepatis, while there are only four MPs whose total declared assets are less than Rs 20 lakh. The total declared assets of 226 Rajya Sabha MPs are approximately Rs 26,047 crore. If we talk about average assets per MP, it comes to around Rs 115.25 crore. Status of criminal cases against MPs

According to the ADR report, out of 226 MPs, 69 MPs i.e. about 31 percent have various types of criminal cases registered against them. Of these, 36 MPs i.e. 16 percent have serious criminal cases registered against them. Serious cases include crimes that carry a punishment of five years or more.

The report also states that a case of murder has been registered against one Rajya Sabha MP, while four MPs have been charged with attempt to murder. Apart from this, there are four MPs against whom cases related to atrocities against women have been registered.

If we talk about serious criminal cases, then the names of 14 MPs from BJP, 8 from Congress, 2 from Trinamool Congress, 1 from DMK, 1 from Samajwadi Party, 1 from TDP, 1 from BRS, 2 from CPI(M), 1 from NCP and 1 from Aam Aadmi Party are included.

How rich are Rajya Sabha MPs?

According to the report, 100 Rajya Sabha MPs have assets worth more than Rs 10 crore. Whereas 41 MPs have assets between Rs 5 to 10 crore. Whereas 66 MPs have assets worth Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore. According to the report, 31 MPs of Rajya Sabha, i.e. about 14 percent members are billionaires. The declared assets of these MPs are more than Rs 100 crore. Billionaire MPs include 7 from Bharatiya Janata Party, 6 from Congress, 2 from YSR Congress Party, 2 from TDP, 2 from BRS and 2 from NCP.

According to the report, Telangana state appears to be at the forefront in terms of wealth. Four out of seven Telangana MPs in Rajya Sabha are billionaires. The total assets of these seven MPs are said to be more than Rs 8,310 crore.

While some MPs own assets worth thousands of crores of rupees, the declared assets of some MPs are much less. Sant Balbir Singh, Aam Aadmi Party MP from Punjab, is the MP with the least assets. He has been registered as having assets worth only Rs 3.79 lakh.

CPI(M) MP A.A. Rahim, whose total assets are Rs 11.62 lakh. At the third place is BJP MP from Madhya Pradesh Sumitra Valmik, whose declared assets are Rs 17.85 lakh.

Which MP has the most debt?

The report mentions not only the assets but also the liabilities of the MPs. Independent Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand Parimal Nathwani has the highest liability. His net worth is more than Rs 755 crore, but he also has a debt of more than Rs 256 crore.
