New Delhi, Read: The Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday issued an advisory cautioning Indian citizens not to misuse the 30-day visa-free entry facility to travel to Malaysia in search of employment. The High Commission has warned that doing so can lead to problems like overstaying the visa period, getting illegal migrant status, becoming a victim of exploitation, being detained and facing legal action. The Indian High Commission said that in recent times there has been a significant increase in the number of Indian nationals arriving in Malaysia in search of employment using the 30-day visa-free facility. The High Commission appealed to Indians visiting Malaysia as tourists to strictly adhere to the conditions of their stay and cautioned against accepting employment on tourist visas.

They have also been warned to beware of dubious agents luring people with fake job opportunities. The advisory said that many Indian citizens are misled by false job promises, due to which they overstay their visa period and face problems like illegal migrant status, exploitation, detention and legal action.
The High Commission clarified that seeking employment through the visa-free facility is a violation of Malaysia's immigration rules. The facility, which allows Indian passport holders to stay in Malaysia for up to 30 days, is only for tourism and social visits.
Tourist must have valid documents
Indian citizens traveling to Malaysia for tourism purposes have also been advised to carry valid and verified travel documents to avoid immigration issues at the time of arrival. These include proof of confirmed return ticket, hotel booking and a Malaysia Digital Arrival Card submitted online three days before the arrival date.
Passengers have also been asked to ensure that their passport has at least six months of validity remaining. The High Commission reiterated the warning that Indian citizens should not travel to Malaysia for employment purposes without a work permit or Visa with Reference (VDR).
This advisory has been issued amid growing concerns over such cases in which Indian citizens are lured to Malaysia with fake job offers and later fall into violation of immigration rules there. The High Commission has appealed to people going in search of jobs to obtain necessary legal permission and documents before travelling.
