Afghanistan team announced for T20 series against India, Ibrahim Zadran will take command

The National Selection Committee of Afghanistan has announced its 15-member strong team, in which three players have also been kept as reserves.

New Delhi: Such interesting incidents are often seen on the cricket field, which are remembered for a long time. A three-match T20 series is to be played between India and Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi from 13 to 17 September 2026. The most interesting thing about this series is that it is being hosted by Afghanistan Cricket Board. This simply means that the Indian cricket team will play the role of a ‘guest’ team while playing in its own home. For this historic clash, the National Selection Committee of Afghanistan has announced its 15-member strong team, in which three players have also been kept as reserves.

Command in the hands of Ibrahim Zadran

Ibrahim Zadran has been appointed the captain of the Afghanistan team for this important series. This will be the first big test of his career as a full-time captain. The exciting first match of the series will be played on 13th September, while the second match will be played on 15th and the final match will be played on 17th September.

The Afghanistan Board had made a special request to hold the match on September 14 in view of the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, but a consensus could not be reached.

Naveen Ul Haq returns after injury

The biggest and most relieving news for the Afghan camp is the return of fast bowler Naveen Ul Haq. Due to stress fracture, he could not be a part of the T20 series against West Indies and the recent T20 World Cup 2026. Now returning to the team fully fit will give new energy to Afghanistan’s fast bowling attack. Along with him, Fazalhaq Farooqui and Abdullah Ahmedzai will also be seen giving a tough test to the Indian batsmen. Apart from this, experienced all-rounder Gulbadin Naib has also returned to the team, who will provide stability to the middle order as well as make an important contribution in the bowling.

Keeping the future in mind, the selectors have given the national team ticket to wicketkeeper batsman Noor Rahman for the first time. This is the reward for his excellent performance in domestic cricket and T20 league, who will now serve as the backup to Rahmanullah Gurbaz. If we look at the balance of the team, the spin bowling adorned with veterans like Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rehman, Noor Ahmed and Nangyal Kharoti is ready to weave its net as always.
