The situation on the Nepal-China border has become extremely critical. Due to the breaking of the dam of the lake formed by landslide debris in Tibet, the strong flow of water is moving towards the low-lying areas. In view of the seriousness of the threat, Chinese authorities have suddenly stopped all ongoing relief and rescue operations in Tibet. Chinese rescue workers and heavy vehicles deployed in the affected areas have been instructed to immediately retreat and move to safe places.
Lake made of debris becomes a new problem
In fact, on August 26, there was a flash flood with snow, heavy rocks and debris near the Nepal-China border. Many settlements, roads and bridges were completely destroyed in this natural disaster. Hundreds of people lost their lives and a large number of people went missing. After the flood, the debris brought down from the mountains was deposited in the main course of the river, due to which the water of the river got stagnant and a large artificial lake was formed.
The water in the lake was continuously increasing for the last two days. Now it has been confirmed that this lake has overflowed and the natural dam on the Tibetan side has suddenly broken. Due to this, huge amount of stagnant water is rapidly moving towards downstream areas.
Situation worsened after earthquake in Sichuan
Amidst this crisis of floods and dam collapse, an earthquake of 5.1 magnitude was also recorded in the Sichuan Province region of China. The situation became more sensitive after the earthquake, which increased the possibility of additional debris sliding from the mountains.
As soon as official information was received from Tibet about the dam breaking again and the massive deluge, Nepal Police immediately issued a high alert. People living in villages and low-lying areas situated on the banks of the river are being warned through loudspeakers.
Next 2 hours very critical in Nepal
According to Nepal administration, this flood will enter Nepal's borders within the next two hours. Nepal's relief and rescue teams already deployed in danger areas have also been issued instructions to move to higher and safer areas. The work of evacuating the coastal areas of Bhotkoshi and Trishuli rivers is going on war footing. The main trade routes and infrastructure located on the border of the two countries have been completely destroyed, due to which land connectivity has been severed.
