After Rahul and Akhilesh, now Mamata Banerjee raised the stick! Will India alliance be able to survive again after the flop show? – ..

The effort to once again bring the opposition to the forefront of Indian politics and give it a stronger edge seems to be starting afresh. After facing crushing defeat and flop show in two consecutive general elections i.e. in the year 2019 and the year 2024, the opposition clan is once again going through a period of introspection. Now West Bengal Chief Minister and firebrand leader of Trinamool Congress (TMC) Mamata Banerjee has herself taken command to stitch together the scattered links of the ‘India’ (INDIA) alliance, which was formed with the intention of giving a tough challenge to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) which is in power at the Centre. The discussions regarding this new gathering are very heated in the political circles.

Opposition faces crisis of credibility after two consecutive defeats If we look at the history and statistics of the last two Lok Sabha elections, the performance of the opposition parties was very disappointing as expected. Despite tall claims and big alliances, the opposition completely failed to prove its credibility among the public. While efforts for unity remained in vain in 2019, with the 2024 elections approaching, soon after the formation of the ‘India’ Alliance, the sounds of mutual infighting and rebellion had intensified. As soon as the elections were over, many regional parties left the alliance, due to which the entire front started looking scattered like a house of cards. Now the chessboard is being laid afresh to wash away the stain of this old flop show.

Mamata’s new strategy to unite the scattered ‘India’ alliance At this time, the biggest question within the opposition is how to bring this scattered clan back on one platform. Mamata Banerjee is now seen standing at the forefront to accomplish this difficult task. Political analysts believe that Mamata Banerjee knows very well that the path to the throne of Delhi cannot be decided without the support of strong regional satraps. This is why he has started a series of informal talks with the Congress, Samajwadi Party, and the Left to put aside ideological differences and unite everyone under a Common Minimum Program (CMP). This effort of Mamta can prove to be a lifeline for the opposition.

Will things be possible amidst the arrogance of regional leaders? The biggest challenge facing this new initiative of Mamata Banerjee is the political ambitions and regional interests of the opposition leaders. It has also been seen in the past that as soon as the elections approach, clashes start within the alliance regarding seat distribution and the face of the Prime Minister’s post. Keeping Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh, strong regional parties in Bihar and the satraps of South India on the same track for a long time is no less than a litmus test. Now it remains to be seen whether these parties, learning from the bad experiences of 2019 and 2024, forget their mutual egos and cooperate in making Mamata Banerjee’s unity mission successful or will this new gathering of opposition also remain just another failed attempt.
