Tezzbuzz Desk- Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration has dismissed Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoizam from the job in a case related to sexual harassment allegations. University Vice-Chancellor Shantishree Dhulipudi Pandit issued the order of dismissal on 9 October 2026, which will come into effect with immediate effect.
Several students had leveled allegations of inappropriate behavior and sexual harassment against the professor. The University's Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) had initiated the process to investigate these complaints. The committee heard the statements of the complainants, examined the available evidence and also gave the concerned professor an opportunity to present his side. According to the report, the first complaint against the professor came to light in August. Subsequently, in September, 10 students lodged complaints with the ICC. The complaints included alleged inappropriate behaviour, objectionable comments and inviting students to his residence on the university campus.
The complainants had alleged that the professor's behavior was not dignified and objectionable comments were made even during class. Considering the seriousness of the matter, ICC conducted an investigation and submitted its report to the university administration. According to the report, the committee had recommended strict action against the professor based on its investigation. On the basis of this report and recommendations, the university administration took the decision of dismissal.
