Before Diwali, the Central Government has given a big gift to the firefighters and made a big announcement on the service expansion scheme. According to the decision of the Union Cabinet, 25 percent of the Agniveers will become regular soldiers, while 75 percent of the Agniveers will be given a two-year extension in service. That means, the service of Agniveer has been increased from four years to six years. This information has been given by Chief of Defense Staff i.e. CDS General NS Raja Subramani. He said that the Agniveers who get a two-year tenure will also be offered permanent posts later on the basis of performance assessment. CDS Subramani said that the firefighters who got extension in service will get increased salary and allowances.
What information did CDS give in the press conference?
CDS NS Raja Subramani told during the press conference that this scheme was introduced on June 14, 2022. Then there was talk of continuous assessment of the performance of Agniveer. The first batch of Agniveers is about to complete four years. Positive feedback has been received about Agniveer. 25 percent of Agniveers will be included in the regular armed forces. Under this scheme, the remaining 75 percent fire fighters will be given a period of two more years. After this two-year period, those Agniveers who are interested and meet the selection criteria will be inducted into the regular armed forces. This decision has come at a time when the three services of the Army were preparing to release about 75 percent of the Agniveers of the first batch of Agneepath scheme from service in a phased manner from mid-November 2026.
Firefighters will get more money in the extended service period of two years
CDS said that the Cabinet has approved this period of two years. The scope of selection has increased. Agniveer is coming from all the districts. For transparency, now written test is being taken first and then physical test. During the period of four years, the physical fitness, morale and discipline of the Agniveers have been at a high level. Efforts have been made to increase their efficiency. 10th pass Agniveers have been given further studies.
After feedback and review, it was decided that 75 percent of the fire fighters will be given a further extension of two years. Under this, they will get more remuneration and extended service fund. With this, the Cabinet has paved the way for all the fire warriors to join the armed forces.
