Ahmedabad Air India Crash: Investigation report soon, 260 deaths…
One year anniversary of Air India’s Ahmedabad plane crash is about to complete. Meanwhile, updates related to the investigation have once again brought this matter into the limelight. According to the report, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) may release the interim or final report of the AI-171 crash that occurred in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 12.
Ahmedabad: A major update has come out regarding the investigation report of Ahmedabad Air India AI-171 plane crash, one of India’s worst plane crashes. According to reports, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) may release either an interim report or the final investigation report in this case on Friday, June 12.
This date coincides with the first anniversary of the accident, making this report considered all the more important. A total of 260 people died in the accident, making it one of the deadliest accidents in India’s civil aviation history.
Report deadlines under international rules
As per the Annex-13 guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the preliminary or final investigation report of any aircraft accident is usually attempted to be made public within 12 months. If the final report is not released within a year, the country concerned is required to issue an interim update on each anniversary, reporting the progress and findings of the investigation.
How did this horrific plane accident happen?
On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight AI-171 took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad for Gatwick Airport in London. The aircraft lost control just seconds after takeoff—about 32 to 40 seconds—and crashed into B. J. The accident occurred in the hostel complex of the medical college, Meghani Nagar area.
Immediately after the collision the aircraft caught fire and was reduced to a complete wreck. 260 people lost their lives in this tragic accident. The dead included passengers, crew members and people on the ground. The incident shocked the entire country. According to reports, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also died in this accident, making this accident very sensitive from political and social point of view.
Investigation process and current status
The plane crash is being investigated by the AAIB, which also involves technical experts, aviation engineers and international security agencies. The investigation is conducting a detailed review of the aircraft’s takeoff performance, engine systems, flight data recorder (black box) and air traffic control communications. According to sources, the report will clarify whether the accident was a result of technical fault, human error or any other external reasons.
