Ahmedabad. The vigilance of the ticket checking staff of Western Railway has led to the busting of a gang that was traveling using fake railway tickets made with the help of AI.
In this case, three accused have been arrested, including two passengers traveling on fake tickets and the alleged mastermind who prepared the tickets. According to railway police, the main accused was caught in Gondal. After being presented in court, all the accused were sent to jail.
The incident involving the passengers caught on the Veraval-Jabalpur Express occurred on October 15 during a ticket check on train number 11463. After the train departed from Wankaner Junction, the Chief Ticket Inspector (CTI) on duty was conducting regular checks. During this time, two passengers present in the corridor of coaches H-1 and S-1 showed their monthly season tickets (MST) and travel tickets on their mobile phones.
When the tickets appeared suspicious due to the name of the Government of India, the official railway logo, and other details, the CTI immediately informed the commercial control room. Upon the train’s arrival at Surendranagar station, both passengers were handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). During the investigation of the case where tickets were made using Google AI and sent via WhatsApp, a case was registered at the Rajkot railway police station under sections 336(3), 340(2), and 54 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023.
The police surveillance team found that the alleged fake tickets found with the passengers were prepared by Manmohan, a resident of Gondal, using the Google AI application. It is alleged that he created the tickets on his mobile phone and sent them to an acquaintance via WhatsApp, which were used during the journey. Based on the information received, the railway police’s surveillance team took action and arrested the alleged main accused Manmohan from Gondal within a few hours.
The railway administration and police have jointly advanced the investigation into the matter. This incident has raised concerns about the potential fraud in railway tickets due to the misuse of digital technology. The railway administration has emphasized the vigilance of employees during ticket checks as crucial in uncovering this case.
