The results of Ajmer Municipal Corporation elections have caused a major upheaval in the politics of the city. The Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been in control of the Municipal Corporation for a long time, remained far away from the majority this time, while the Congress took the lead by winning the maximum number of wards. 37 Congress candidates were victorious in 80 wards. BJP got 32 seats, while independent candidates won in 11 wards.

No party has the required number of 41 councilors to form the board. In such a situation, now the key to power of Ajmer Municipal Corporation has reached the hands of those 11 independent councillors. To form the board, Congress will need the support of four councilors and BJP will need the support of seven. In such a situation, both the parties will try to bring independent councilors to their side.
36 year old BJP's dominance broken
BJP has dominated the Municipal Corporation Board in Ajmer for more than three decades. The results this time are also important because the reputation of big BJP leaders in the city was linked to the elections. The party had to lag behind the Congress in the area of influence of Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani and MLA Anita Bhadel.
The picture of the last civic elections was completely different from this. Then BJP had won in 48 wards, while Congress was reduced to just 18 seats. One seat went to RLP and 13 independent candidates won. This time there has been a big increase in Congress seats.

Big upheaval in Ward 59
Ward 59 was also in the news in the election results. Here Babita Chauhan of Congress defeated Madhu Shekhawat of BJP. Madhu Shekhawat was considered among the strong contenders for the post of Mayor because she was the wife of former Chairman Surendra Singh Shekhawat. The contest in Ward 4 was also interesting. Monica Jain, who left Congress and joined BJP, won the election.
This time a total of 360 candidates contested the elections in 80 wards of Ajmer Municipal Corporation. Now after the results are out, the biggest question is regarding the formation of the board. Congress has become the largest party, but to reach power it will have to gather the support of four independent councilors. Whereas BJP needs seven independents for majority. In such a situation, the role of independent councilors is going to be most important in the coming days.
