New Delhi. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has decided to support the Modi government on the Women’s Reservation and Delimitation Bills. SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi a day earlier. Following this, Badal held a meeting with senior party leaders in Chandigarh today, where the issues of the Women’s Reservation and Delimitation Bills were discussed. Following the meeting, Sukhbir Badal made the announcement on his official X-post. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju welcomed the Shiromani Akali Dal’s important decision. He said, “We must come together to empower women and ensure a fair and equitable delimitation process that ensures their equal representation.”

Sukhbir Badal wrote on X-post, “The Shiromani Akali Dal, at a meeting of its senior leaders in Chandigarh today, demanded the immediate implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the country. The Shiromani Akali Dal draws inspiration from the teachings of the Sikh Gurus, who advocated for respect, equality, and equal rights for women.” The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPCAmritsar) has already set an example by providing reservation for women in its assembly. After a detailed discussion on the key issues facing Parliament, the Shiromani Akali Dal also demanded a fair and just delimitation process, ensuring equal representation for all states.

The Shiromani Akali Dal supported the resolution introduced by the Government of India in the House, which called for a uniform 50 percent increase in seats for all states. The party stressed that women’s reservation and delimitation should be implemented immediately. Senior SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema told reporters after the meeting that they want both the Women’s Reservation Bill and the Delimitation Bill to be passed and implemented by Parliament.
