Bollywood actor Akshay Khanna has bought a new house worth crores of rupees in Malabar Hill, a very posh area of Mumbai. According to the property registration document linked to the records of Maharashtra’s Inspector General of Registration (IGR), Akshaye Khanna has purchased an apartment at 30 Little Gibbs for Rs 33.26 crore. This property is not only in the news because of its price, but is also considered special because of its location in a premium area like Malabar Hill.
Akshaye Khanna’s new apartment is located at 30 Little Gibbs, Malabar Hill Road. Its carpet area is 2,341.39 square feet. Apart from this, the house also has a balcony area of 175.45 square feet. In this way, the total area including carpet and balcony becomes 2,516.84 square feet. Along with the property, Akshay has also got three parking units.
Stamp duty of about Rs 1.99 crore has been paid for this deal, while the registration fee is said to be Rs 30 thousand. If we look at the purchase price and carpet area, Akshay Khanna has purchased this property at the rate of around Rs 1.42 lakh per square foot.
Why is property so expensive in Malabar Hill?
Malabar Hill is counted among the most expensive and exclusive residential areas of Mumbai. Along with being close to the sea, there is easy access to many important and old areas of South Mumbai. Areas like Marine Drive, Nariman Point, Fort and Colaba are around it. Nepean Sea Road, Walkeshwar Road and Peddar Road also connect this area to other parts of South Mumbai.
The number of big and luxury houses in the area is limited. Schools, big hospitals, restaurants and other important facilities are also present here. Famous places like Hanging Gardens, Kamla Nehru Park, Banganga Tank and Walkeshwar Temple are also present in and around Malabar Hill. This is the reason why the price of property here is much higher than in general Mumbai areas.
Here the talk is not about one crore but lakhs of rupees per square foot.
According to Square Yards data for September 2026, the average asking price in Malabar Hill was around Rs 85,200 per square foot. However, there is a huge difference in prices in different buildings and projects of the area. In Walkeshwar, this average is said to be around Rs 92,650 per square foot, while in some premium projects the price reaches above Rs 1 lakh per square foot.
Old property records at 30 Little Gibbs also show the high prices of luxury homes in the area. An apartment with the same carpet area was registered in January 2026 for about Rs 31.93 crore. Whereas in June 2025, other apartments of similar size were registered for around Rs 30 crore per unit.
Many big Bollywood stars live in Malabar Hill
Malabar Hill has long been one of the favorite areas of Bollywood stars and businessmen. Actress Juhi Chawla and her husband Jai Mehta also have a luxurious house here. Actress Madhu and her husband Anand Shah are also said to have a luxurious bungalow in Malabar Hill, which has a collection of antiques.
Apart from this, Bachchan family also has a residence in this posh area. Actor Sunny Deol’s name is also associated with the luxury houses of Malabar Hill. His house has facilities like personal swimming pool and gym.
This is not the first case of buying property in Mumbai for Akshay Khanna. In the year 2009, information about his buying a bungalow in Alibaug came to light. After this, in January 2010, he bought about four acres of land near Mandwa, where there were plans to build a big bungalow. It was said to include facilities like swimming pool and squash court.
