Chennai. Alleged remarks made about actress Trisha Krishnan have sparked a major controversy in Tamil Nadu politics. DMK leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Udhayanidhi Stalin, has been detained by police. The action came after Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s party, TVK, filed a complaint with the police and the National Commission for Women (NCW).
TVK files complaint –
TVK’s Thanjavur Central District Women’s Wing Convenor S. Bairavi filed a complaint against Udhayanidhi Stalin at the Thanjavur East Police Station. The party has also requested the National Commission for Women’s intervention and action. Police are investigating the matter.
A heavy police force was already deployed at the residence.
Following Udhayanidhi Stalin’s controversial remarks, TVK workers had announced a siege of his residence. Anticipating potential tension, the police had already deployed a heavy security force outside his home. Later, the police took him into custody.
Alleged remarks spark controversy:
The controversy began at a rally in Thanjavur regarding the Cauvery water dispute. A remark by Udhayanidhi Stalin, who referred to actress Trisha by name during his speech, went viral on social media. Opposition parties strongly objected, calling it offensive to the actress.
TVK and BJP take aim:
TVK MLA Revanth Charan alleged that the DMK is lowering the level of political discourse and resorting to provocative politics to divert attention. The Tamil Nadu BJP also condemned the remarks, calling them indecent and shameful. BJP spokesperson Narayanan Tirupati demanded the arrest of Udhayanidhi Stalin and questioned the silence of former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
