NDRF Army Joint Rescue Borewell Accident: A painful accident has come to light in Dhanaura village of Ambala district of Haryana. Here a 4 year old innocent child Nirbhay fell into a 220 feet open borewell while playing. As soon as information about the incident was received, teams of police-administration, Indian Army and NDRF immediately reached the spot. A rescue operation was carried out on a war footing to bring the child out safely, but despite hard efforts he could not be saved.
Saving Nirbhay was a challenge for the rescue team as the child’s head was stuck inside the borewell. For this reason he could not be evacuated on time. Following a joint operation by NDRF, SDRF and the Indian Army, four-year-old Nirbhay was pulled out of the borewell after a rescue that lasted for about 21 hours. As soon as he was taken out, he was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead.
A challenge for the rescue team
NDRF Assistant Commandant Anil Kumar said, ‘The biggest challenge was that the child was submerged in water. Another major challenge was the depth of the borewell. The child was badly trapped against the inner wall of the borewell. There was almost no space between the child’s body and the wall of the borewell, not even between his hand and the wall. Despite these challenges, we were able to hold the child’s hand with our rescue equipment and pull him out successfully.
