America dropped Iranian drone on the Strait of Hormuz, situation serious in Pakistan after the attack!
New Delhi: Despite the implementation of ceasefire between America and Iran, the tension does not seem to be stopping. The US military on Sunday shot down two Iranian drones flying over the Strait of Hormuz. The army says that these drones were a threat to international maritime traffic. After this action, the situation has once again heated up in the Gulf region.
The war did not stop even on the 100th day
The Iran-US conflict has now entered its 100th day. Efforts to convert the ceasefire into a permanent agreement have failed several times. The effect of this long stretch is also visible on the global market. As the midterm elections in America approach, domestic pressure on President Donald Trump is also increasing.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Iran fired several missiles at America’s allies Bahrain and Kuwait. After this attack, resentment increased in the Gulf countries and questions were also raised on the ceasefire on April 8. Iran’s Foreign Ministry described America’s recent attacks as a violation of international rules and accused Washington of provocation.
Pakistan’s mediation efforts
Amidst the tension, Pakistan has once again entered into mediation. Pakistan Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi suddenly reached Tehran on Sunday. He also had a message from Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir to the Supreme Leader of Iran.
Naqvi said that this message is very important and efforts are being made to restart the talks. He met Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni at the Bishkek meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. Only after that the tour was decided.
Pakistan has already played a role in holding a round of direct talks between Iran and America. Islamabad believes that if talks resume, stability can be brought to the region.
Crisis on talks continues
Mohsen Rezai, military advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, has said that talks with America are currently at a standstill. He appealed to Trump to end the impasse and reiterated his demand to release Iran’s frozen assets worth $24 billion.
There have been indications from the US that those funds can be used to compensate for the losses caused by Iranian attacks in Gulf countries. In such a situation, it does not seem easy to restore trust between the two countries. Right now the situation depends on whether Pakistan’s initiative will set the table for talks again or not.
