Tezzbuzz Desk- The United States has approved additional financial and humanitarian assistance to help people affected by floods in Nepal. According to the US State Department, till now assistance worth more than 5 million dollars has been given to Nepal. This also includes funding of $1 million to provide forensic assistance and DNA kits to Nepal Police.
10 thousand families will get food
US assistance includes $3 million in food and logistics assistance through the World Food Program (WFP). Under this, emergency food will be provided to 10 thousand flood affected families for three months. Arrangements are being made for air and ground transportation to deliver relief material to remote areas.
Emphasis on shelter and health services
Through Catholic Relief Services (CRS), assistance worth $6.85 lakh has been provided for food, shelter, drinking water, sanitation and security. Relief material includes blankets, plastic sheets, tents, solar lights and essential items. Safe places are also being created for children.
At the same time, assistance of $3.65 lakh has been provided for health, nutrition and sanitation services through Jhapigo, FHI-360 and UNICEF.
FBI started identifying the victims
Forensic experts from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are working with Nepal Police to identify those killed in the flood disaster. This assistance is helping identify families of American citizens and other victims.
US military help for search and rescue
The US military has provided 5,000 special disaster victim recovery items, 500 first aid kits, stretchers and front-end loaders to Nepal-led search, rescue and relief operations. A four-member US military civil affairs team is present in Nepal for relief projects.
America has said that it is ready to provide additional assistance as per the need in collaboration with the Nepalese government.
