Tehran, 31 August 2026: Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were seen preparing to fire rockets and lay sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The US military completed demining the strait's international shipping lanes last week. During this, American military forces attacked Iranian rocket launchers in the Strait of Hormuz. This was the first American military action against Iran in more than a month, breaking a brief peace in the war that had been going on for more than six months.
According to US Central Command spokesman Tim Hawkins, Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were seen preparing to fire rockets and lay sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The US military completed demining the strait's international shipping lanes last week.
Iran's semi-official news agencies reported hearing explosions near Laraque Island in the strait. In a statement broadcast by Iran's state broadcaster, the Revolutionary Guard said that “many of our fighters and countrymen have been martyred and wounded.”
Iranian state television later aired footage claiming that Iran had fired ballistic missiles at US military bases in Jordan in retaliation for the US attack. Jordan's armed forces said they had destroyed eight missiles that had entered the country's airspace early Monday morning.
Resumption of open conflict would be dangerous for the region. Iran has been targeting US military bases and infrastructure in the Gulf countries since the war began on February 28. The US military had earlier confirmed targeting Iran on July 29. At that time, it announced a “major attack” on several Revolutionary Guard targets, including coastal surveillance and defense installations.
