Amit Shah attacks Kejriwal government, says, ‘It is a big sin to dump 1500 metric tons of cow dung in Yamuna every day’
New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the ‘Mission 70 Lakh Tree Plantation’ program under the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ campaign in the national capital. On this occasion, he also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various public welfare projects of Delhi Government. During the program, Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of a new high security jail in Narela. Along with this, he inaugurated the Automated Vehicle Testing Center and inaugurated three new depots. To promote public transport, he also flagged off 300 new EV buses.
Addressing the program, Union Home Minister Amit Shah targeted the previous Kejriwal government and alleged that during its tenure, about 1,500 metric tonnes of cow dung was dumped into the Yamuna river every day, which increased the pollution of the river. He said that now Delhi Government and National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) together will use this cow dung in a scientific manner. Under this, biogas and natural fertilizer will be prepared from cow dung, so that not even a single kg of cow dung goes into Yamuna. He said that this initiative will not only help in protecting Yamuna from pollution, but will also promote the production of clean energy and organic fertilizers.
‘Kejriwal and company committed this sin’
During the program, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on the previous Kejriwal government, saying that dumping 1,500 metric tonnes of cow dung in the Yamuna every day was a sin of “Kejriwal and Company”. He said that now the Central and Delhi governments of BJP are going to change this system completely. Amit Shah said, “We will enter into an agreement with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) next week, so that not even a single kilo of cow dung goes into Yamuna ji. Kejriwal and Company have committed this sin of dumping 1,500 metric tons of cow dung into Yamuna ji every day. Now BJP’s Narendra Modi government and our Delhi government will enter into an agreement with NDDB to process the cow dung and make gas and natural fertilizer from it. This will make a big contribution in the purification of Yamuna.”
Purified water from STP will reach Yamuna
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Delhi government is continuously taking concrete steps to clean the Yamuna. He said that 129 sewage treatment plants (STPs) have been commissioned in the last one year, while 29 more STPs will be installed by the end of the year. He said, “With the commencement of these sewage treatment plants, no dirty water will be released into the Yamuna, but only completely purified water will be released. It has also been ensured that the water coming out of the STP meets all the prescribed quality standards.”
Delhi’s ‘Green Lungs’ will become ridge, theme based forests will be developed
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that more than one crore saplings will be planted in the Delhi Ridge Forest area in the next three years to make it the ‘green lungs’ of the national capital. He said that this campaign will prove to be a big step towards strengthening Delhi’s green identity and environmental protection. Shah said that special theme based forests like Panchavati Van, Nakshatra Van, Bel Van, Ritu Van, Rishi Van, Tirthankar Van, Vaman Vriksha Van and Purani Vatika will be developed in the ridge area. The purpose of these forests is to promote biodiversity as well as connect people with nature, culture and environment. He said that over the years, there had been excessive expansion of exotic and environmentally unsuitable trees like Prosopis juliflora in the Delhi Ridge area. Now they will be removed in a phased manner and trees of native species will be planted in their place, which will strengthen the ecosystem and make the green area of Delhi more prosperous.
Native trees like Peepal, Banyan, Neem and Jamun will be planted in the ridge.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that 7,784 hectare ridge area of Delhi was notified under the Indian Forest Act in the year 1994, but its final notification was pending for the last 30 years. He said that the Delhi government has taken an important initiative in this direction and has declared about 5,000 hectares of area as forest area. Shah said the government aims to provide legal protection to the entire ridge area, so as to preserve and strengthen its biodiversity, soils, water sources and environmental balance. He said that this will give a new direction to the environment of Delhi and the green area will expand. He said that in the next three years, trees of various native species including Peepal, Banyan, Neem, Arjun and Jamun will be planted in Delhi Ridge. He said that planting of these plants will improve the air quality of Delhi, promote biodiversity and help in making the national capital more green and clean.
