Amit Shah attacks Mann government on drug issue in Punjab, says – 'AAP pushed Punjab into darkness'

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on the first day of his two-day visit to Punjab, launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government over the drug trade. He alleged that the drug trade has gone out of control in the state and those raising their voice against drugs are being harassed. Referring to the incidents in Gurdaspur, Sangrur and Mansa, Shah said that the ground situation in Punjab is very worrying.

Tezzbuzz Desk – Union Minister Amit Shah targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on the first day of his two-day visit to Punjab. He alleged that the Bhagwant Mann led government was pushing Punjab into darkness and the drug trade had gone out of control in the state. Referring to Bikramjit Singh of Gurdaspur, Gulzar Singh of Sangrur and Parvinder Singh Jhota of Mansa, Shah said that these people had raised their voice against the drug problem. According to him, some of them were murdered, while some were harassed so much that they committed suicide. However, the allegations and circumstances related to these incidents can be confirmed only on the basis of investigation.

Amit Shah said that the ground situation in Punjab is much worse than the reports reaching Delhi. He said that he was shocked to the core after seeing the situation there. Shah questioned the AAP government as to what answer the government would give to the families who have lost their brother or husband. He alleged that instead of giving concrete answers from the government, excuses are being made.

Shah reminded that his last visit to Punjab was for a BJP rally, in which 'Drug-free Punjab' was the key issue. He said that even at that time he had appealed to the state to end the drug trade, but instead he was targeted.

'There will be no benefit in abusing'

Amit Shah said that this time he has come to console the victims' families and he has no political agenda. Despite this he had to face abuses and insults. He said that there would be no benefit in abusing him. “If it gives you satisfaction, then of course do it, but please end the drug trade, stop the drug trade,” Shah said.

'Drug trade has not stopped even after five years'

Shah alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party had come to power with the promise of ending the drug trade from Punjab. He said that the government had promised to end the drug problem within three months, but even after five years, the drug trade continues in the state.

He claimed that drugs are being sold in every village of Punjab and there have been cases of recovery of 10 to 12 kg of heroin from some policemen. Shah alleged that those opposing the drug trade were being harassed and in some cases there were incidents of them being murdered or forced to commit suicide. He also targeted the leaders of the AAP government.

'We will find the accused even from hell'

Amit Shah took a dig at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann by saying that after celebrating his birthday, he handed over the investigation of a case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Shah assured the people of Punjab that no matter who the accused in this case is and how powerful he is, he will be found and brought under the ambit of law.

He said that in the case handed over to the investigating agency, action should be taken against the culprits and no one should be considered above the law.

'I will never forget this year's Vijayadashami'

Amit Shah said that he will never forget this year's Vijayadashami. During his tour he visited Gurdaspur, Sangrur and Mansa. He mentioned the people who raised their voice against the drug problem at these three places and described their deaths as tragic.

Shah said that the incidents that happened with people and their families who raised their voice against drug addiction are very serious. He appealed to the Punjab government to stop the drug trade and ensure the safety of those raising their voice against it.
