Amit Shah Attacks Rahul Gandhi on Parliamentary Disruptions

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday, accusing him of disrupting parliamentary proceedings, avoiding structured debates, and institutionalising walkouts as the core culture of the Congress party.

Addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ foot march in Karnal, Haryana, Shah asserted that Parliament remains the supreme forum for democratic deliberation.

He criticised Gandhi for taking political confrontations to the streets rather than engaging on the floor of the House. Shah highlighted the mandate received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2024 elections, stating that repeated electoral defeats under Gandhi’s leadership have led the Opposition toward obstructionist tactics.

Shah’s hard-hitting remarks come against the backdrop of Rahul Gandhi’s repeated challenges to Prime Minister Modi for an open, public debate on key issues, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, financial structures, and foreign policy decisions. Gandhi had suggested holding the debate at any venue of the Prime Minister’s choosing in the presence of the media and youth.

Responding to the Opposition’s ongoing protests, Shah declared that the BJP is fully prepared to counter Congress in Parliament, state assemblies, and on the streets, asserting that the public would not be misled by political deceptions.
