Amul Digital Dairy: Digital model reached ‘from cow to cloud and from cloud to customer’, big change in dairy sector due to technology

India’s largest dairy cooperative Amul has entered the dairy (Amul Digital Dairy) sector. digital By making extensive use of technology, the entire process from animal husbandry to the consumer has been modernized. Under the Amul Digital Dairy model, animal health, artificial insemination, milk collection, quality testing, payments and supply chain are linked into an integrated digital system. The objective of this initiative is to increase the income of farmers, ensure better care of animals and make the dairy business more transparent and scientific.

The concept of ‘Cow to Cloud and Cloud to Customer’

While talking to journalists from Chhattisgarh at Amul Dairy located in Anand, Gujarat, Human Resources Head Dr. Preeti Shukla said that Amul’s entire digital model is based on the concept of ‘Cow to Cloud and Cloud to Customer’ (Amul Digital Dairy). Under this, every information related to the birth, identification, vaccination, health and reproduction of the animal is kept safe in digital form. Farmers can also book veterinary services and artificial insemination online through the mobile platform.

Animals will be monitored through smart neck belt

Amul has adopted smart neck belt technology to monitor the health of animals. This device monitors the animal’s activities, food, rest and heat cycle (Amul Digital Dairy). With this, early signs of the disease are detected in time and it also becomes easier to identify the appropriate time for artificial insemination. This facility is being provided to the farmers at a rent of about Rs 3 per animal per day.

AI and modern technology will increase productivity Amul Digital Dairy

Increasing the use of technology in the dairy sector, Amul has developed Artificial Intelligence (AI) based digital assistant ‘Sarlaben’. Farmers can get animal information, health advice and other services through their identification number. Apart from this, modern technologies like sex-sorted semen, embryo transfer (IVF), digital melting unit and smart liquid nitrogen system are also being used, making development of high productive breeds possible.

Digital animal health services reach villages

animal Health Village resource persons have been appointed in villages to strengthen the services. Through these, services like preliminary examination of animals, detection of mastitis, pregnancy test and vaccination are being provided. Vaccination is being monitored through a GPS based system, while active participation of rural women has also been ensured in this campaign.

The entire process from milk collection to payment is digital.

Amul has digitalized the entire supply chain from milk collection centers to dairy plants. The entire process has become transparent with GPS based milk tanker tracking, automated sampling system, quality testing and digital payment system. Systems like paperless dispatch, online approval, digital file management and automated storage have also been implemented in the dairy plant.

Employment to youth through ‘Milk-O-Bike’ Amul Digital Dairy

Amul has started ‘Milk-O-Bike’ initiative to connect rural youth with self-employment. Under this, youth go to the farmers’ homes with portable milking machines and provide milking services. This reduces the labor of farmers and new employment opportunities are also being created in rural areas.

Amul says that an effort has been made to connect farmers, animals, milk cooperative societies and consumers on one platform through digital technology (Amul Digital Dairy). This will increase transparency, services will be available on time, production efficiency will improve and animal husbandry will become more profitable for farmers than before.
