As the demand increased, the shortage increased

The price of 1 kg of ghee rose to Rs 680, an increase of Rs 50. The price of a 500 gm pack of butter has increased by Rs 15. The increase comes at a time when demand for Amul's cow ghee has increased in many markets and shortages are also being experienced. This situation will adversely affect the market.

Direct impact on the market

In the wake of this price hike, availability of Amul ghee, especially cow ghee, has been reported to be reduced in some cities. As a result, consumers are likely to face supply constraints along with inflation ahead of Diwali. Demand for branded ghee has increased following the crackdown on adulterated products in Gujarat and neighboring Rajasthan. This hike has significantly reduced the benefits of the GST reduction in September 2025 to consumers. At that time, the tax on dairy products was reduced from 12% to 5%.

What is the new price of Amul Ghee and Butter?

As per the new rates, a 1kg carton of ghee will now be available at ₹680. Earlier it was priced at ₹630. This means customers will have to spend ₹50 more per pack. Similarly, the price of a 500 g pure ghee pouch has been increased from ₹325 to ₹345. In case of butter, the price of a 100 gram pack will now be ₹66 from ₹63 earlier. A 500 gm pack of butter will now cost ₹325 instead of ₹310. This will increase the financial burden on consumers who buy ghee and butter just before the festive season.

Different prices on online platforms

According to a report in 'The Economic Times', different types of ghee are priced differently on Amul's online platform. Cow ghee is said to be available at Rs 740 per litre, marine ghee at Rs 710, pure ghee at Rs 700 and buffalo ghee at Rs 720 per litre. But, online shoppers can also face difficulties. Varieties like pure ghee, buffalo ghee and some combo packs were showing 'out of stock' on the platform. The picture is clear that supply is under pressure due to increased demand during the festive season.
