Receiving an ownership document for a home in which generations have lived marks a significant moment for a family, reinforcing its sense of security, dignity and confidence. Through the ‘Mera Ghar Mere Naam’ scheme, the Punjab Government is providing documentary recognition of families’ ownership of their homes.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal expressed these views while distributing property cards to 198 beneficiary families at Rampura Jawaharwala village in the Lehra Assembly constituency. Ownership documents had also been distributed to 327 eligible families in Kotra Lehal and 88 in Alampur.
A total of 613 families across the three villages have thus benefited from the scheme. The Cabinet Minister said that the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann, is working to provide ownership documents to families that have lived in their homes in rural areas for decades.
Despite their generations-old association with these homes, many families lacked proper documentary proof of ownership. Recognising this need, the government is completing the necessary procedures and preparing ownership documents at its own expense.
Explaining the significance of these documents, the Cabinet Minister said that a record of a property’s area, boundaries and other particulars helps clarify its ownership status. He added that these documents could assist beneficiaries in various property-related matters and in applying for loans, subject to banks’ rules and eligibility requirements.
Goyal said that people had long needed ownership documents, but previous governments had failed to give the issue adequate attention. He said the present government is prioritising such basic needs and working to ensure that eligible families receive the benefits of government schemes.
The Cabinet Minister directed officials to carry out all work related to the scheme transparently and efficiently, ensuring that no eligible family faces unnecessary inconvenience. He said the department concerned should provide appropriate guidance whenever people require clarification about, or corrections to, the particulars recorded in their documents.
Congratulating the beneficiary families, Barinder Kumar Goyal urged them to keep their property cards safe. He said efforts would continue to expand basic amenities in the Lehra constituency, safeguard people’s rights and ensure convenient access to government services.
SDM Rakesh Prakash, officials from various departments, Aam Aadmi Party leaders, prominent residents, panchayat members, sarpanches and a large number of villagers were present on the occasion.
