• Former NBA center Boban Marjanovic has signed a short-term contract with the Philippine team SGA and will represent them at the William Jones Cup in Taiwan, Misko Raznatovic tweets. The international invitational tournament will take place Aug. 13-23 at Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City. Last season Marjanovic, 37, played for Slovenia’s Perspektiva Ilirija and averaged 13.4 points and 6.6 rebounds in 22.5 minutes across eight ABA League appearances. He also played briefly for China’s Zhejiang Lions and Fenerbahce Istanbul.
• Kansas City’s mayor has a ‘Why not us?’ stance regarding an NBA franchise. While Las Vegas and Seattle are expected to get the next NBA franchises when the league finalizes expansion plans, KC Mayor Quinton Lucas championed the municipality’s re-entry into the NBA discussion, Johnny Askounis of Eurohoops.net relays. Lucas says he’s willing to target either a franchise seeking to relocate or a future league expansion. “I think we could easily support an NBA team, and I think as conversations go on, either for franchises themselves looking for different places or for NBA expansion,” he said. “That’s a conversation that Kansas City wants to be in.” Kansas City had the Kings until 1985, when the franchise moved to Sacramento.
• EuroLeague Most Valuable Player Sasha Vezenkov has already plotted a career path after his playing days are over. According to Mihalis Stefanou of Eurohoops.netVezenkov has earned his master’s degree from the National Sports Academy of Bulgaria, with the ultimate goal of becoming a head coach. The Olympiacos forward played 42 games with Sacramento during the 2023/24 season.
