IPL 2026: Angkrish Raghuvanshi out or not out? MCC ended the entire suspense by citing rules.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi Obstructing the Field: The match played between Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders in the 38th match of the Indian Premier League 2026 created excitement as well as controversy. In this match held on April 26 at Ekana Cricket Stadium, KKR won in the Super Over, but Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s dismissal during the match became the center of discussion. He was declared out by the third umpire under the ‘Obstructing the Field’ rule, after which there was a lot of debate on this decision.

MCC said the decision was right

After this controversy, Marylebone Cricket Club, the body that makes the rules of cricket, responded. MCC clarified that the decision of the third umpire was completely correct. According to the organisation, Rule 37.1.1 states that if a batsman intentionally obstructs the fielding team by his action, he can be given out under ‘Obstructing the Field’.

How did the mistake happen?

According to the MCC statement, Raghuvanshi was initially running towards the off side, but then changed direction after reaching the middle of the pitch. After this he returned towards the leg side, due to which he came between the ball and the wicket. The MCC considered this change a deliberate move. This was the reason why the umpire’s decision was said to be in accordance with the rules.

If you had not changed sides, you could have survived.

MCC also clarified that if Raghuvanshi had remained in his original direction i.e. on the off side and had not changed sides, he would not have been given out. His biggest mistake in this incident was changing direction after crossing the pitch. Actually, while trying to take a run, Cameron Green, standing at the non-striker end, refused, after which Raghuvanshi, while returning, took a U-turn and changed sides and during that time he was hit by the throw.
