Anil Kapoor became a silent storm! An angry character in ‘Subedaar’, but the story disappointed?
Subedaar Film Review: We often see many types of heroes in films, some calm, some rebellious and some who keep their anger as a weapon. The character Arjun Maurya i.e. Anil Kapoor of the film “Subedar” falls in this third category. He is a man who is used to getting up at four in the morning every day, keeping his emotions and anger under control. Anil Kapoor’s presence in this character is fantastic, although the story itself seems to deviate from the path at times.

The story of the film is set in a small North Indian town, where retired Subedar Arjun Maurya returns home after a personal loss. He thinks that now his life will be a little calmer, there will be a daily routine and perhaps the distance in his relationship with his daughter Shyama i.e. Radhika Madan will also gradually reduce. But nothing like this happens. Illegal sand mining, local hooliganism and petty power games have already made the air heavy here.
The film covers many serious issues
The film tries to cover many serious issues within itself, including corruption, rift in father-daughter relationship, social inequalities, personal grief and revenge. In an attempt to capture all this at once, the story sometimes seems to move forward in a hurry. There are many twists and turns which the audience can already anticipate.
Acting of Anil Kapoor, Radhika, Mona and Aditya Rawal

The biggest strength of the film “Subedar” is Anil Kapoor’s acting. Even at this stage of his age, the same energy and screen presence is visible in him. In the character of Arjun Maurya, he may speak less, but his silence says a lot. His tired eyes, tight tongue and experienced personality look great in this film.
Radhika Madan has shown good grip in the character of Shyama. His character is full of anger, hurt and insecurity. However, the script does not give him a chance to emerge from the depth every time. Aditya Rawal has a colorful style in the role of Prince. His acting seems over at some places. Whereas Mona Singh’s character Babli Didi seems interesting in the beginning, but is later suppressed.

Director Suresh Triveni has tried to make the atmosphere of the film realistic. The dusty roads, the hot sun and the slow but tense rhythm of the town all combine to create a solid atmosphere. The early action sequences are also impressive, using pauses and tension more than noise. But the second part of the film needs editing. In the end, “Subedar” turns out to be a film which has passion and great acting, but the story seems old.
