Annan Seer Scheme: Tamil Nadu Allots Rs 812 Crore for 8-Gram Gold Coins, Silk Sarees to 60,000 Brides

Gold has always been a part of weddings in Tamil Nadu, and the state is now putting it back into its welfare policy. The Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-led government has set aside Rs 812 crore to give eight-gram gold coins and pure silk sarees to 60,000 eligible brides in the 2026-27 financial year under the Annan Seer Thittam.

What stands out in the latest tender documents is how detailed the quality rules are. The Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department has allocated about Rs 1.35 lakh per beneficiary and has spelled out exactly what each bride should receive.

Each gold coin must have 916 purity and meet Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmarking requirements. One side will carry the Tamil Nadu government emblem. The other side will show the coin’s weight, purity and hallmarking details.
