Anurag Kashyap trapped in Brahmin comment controversy: Big order of Gujarat Court, instructions to register criminal case increased difficulties.
New Delhi. Filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap is once again stuck in legal trouble. A court in Surat, Gujarat has ordered to register a criminal case against him. This case is related to alleged objectionable comments made on social media about the Brahmin community, to which the complainant had raised serious objection.
Surat’s JMFC (Judicial Magistrate First Class) court passed the order while partially hearing a private complaint filed by local lawyer and Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Kamlesh Rawal. The court held that at the initial stage, there appears to be sufficient grounds that Kashyap’s post has hurt the sentiments of a particular community and may lead to tension in the society.
In the order, the court has asked to register a case under several sections of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS), including Section 196 (promoting enmity between different groups), Section 352 (disturbing peace by intentionally insulting) and Section 353(2) (spreading misleading or false information).
This whole controversy started after a social media post related to the trailer release of the film ‘Phule’. It is alleged that on April 16, ‘All India Brahmin Samaj’ had objected to the trailer, in response to which Anurag Kashyap made a comment on the social media platform X, which was considered objectionable against the community.
Complainant Kamlesh Rawal claims that Kashyap made such comments not once, but twice, which hurt the sentiments of the Brahmin community and created a danger of deteriorating social harmony. He also said that the words of film personalities have a big impact on the society, hence this matter should be taken seriously.
The complaint also mentions that earlier in 2020, there was a controversy against Kashyap over similar objectionable social media posts, in which summons were sent to him several times, but he did not appear in the court. Due to this, the issue of non-bailable warrant against him has also come to light. After this order, now the legal process of the case will proceed and Anurag Kashyap will have to present his side in the court.
