Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Design Leaked: “iPhone Ultra” Fake Shows Passport Form, Wider Outer Screen, and Crease-Free Inner Display
Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to be launched this year, and it is likely to be called either iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold. The Cupertino-based company is yet to offer any official clues about its arrival, but a new dummy iPhone Ultra model has leaked online, offering an idea of the design elements. The renders show a book-style foldable design with an outer display that looks shorter and wider compared to the cover display of other existing foldable phones.
Passport-like form when folded
In a post on Threads, journalist Jon Rettinger shared images of dummy units offering a look at what Apple’s first foldable iPhone could look like. The renders suggest a departure from the design language seen on existing foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Vivo X Fold 5. Instead of the tall and narrow cover display, the iPhone Ultra appears to have a wider outer screenshowing a passport-like form factor when folded.
Outer and inner display sizes
Rumored dimensions point to an outer display of 5.3 to 5.5 inches and an inner display of 7.6 to 7.8 inches. The outer screen will somewhat resemble an iPhone mini in size but with a wider aspect ratio. When open, the inner OLED panel takes over, making it just slightly smaller than the 8.3-inch iPad mini. Like most foldables, the iPhone Ultra will have two displays: one on the outside, and one revealed when you unfold it.
Crease-free design and titanium body
Unlike previous foldables, the inner display of the iPhone Ultra is expected to have a crease-free design — a breakthrough for the form factor. The device will take design cues from the iPhone Airwith a titanium borderbe ultra-thin when unfoldedand resemble two iPhone Airs stacked together when folded, but thinner. Thickness is expected to be around 4.5mm when unfolded and 9–9.5mm when folded.
September 2026 launch window
The iPhone Fold is “on track” for an expected September launchalongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Most leaks point to a September 2026 launchaligning with Apple’s traditional iPhone release cycle. The device will likely feature a 2nm A20 Pro chipa liquid metal hinge to solve the crease problem, and a price tag expected around $1,999 to $2,299.
