Archery World Cup: Sahil Jadhav won bronze medal in Shanghai World Cup, India’s account opened in the compound event.

Shanghai. Reigning World University Games champion Sahil Jadhav won the bronze medal in the men’s compound event in the second phase of the Archery World Cup here on Saturday. This is also his first medal in the World Cup. 25-year-old archer Jadhav from Maharashtra won India’s first medal in the ongoing tournament by defeating Martin Damsbo of Denmark 147-144 in the bronze medal playoff match. India also concluded its campaign in the compound category with this medal. Other players of India had failed to win medals in this category.

India is considered a strong team in compound team events but all its teams were eliminated from the tournament in the initial round itself. India will now look to win two more medals in the recurve event on the concluding day of the competition on Sunday. The Indian women’s team will compete for the gold medal. Apart from this, Simranjeet Kaur will start her campaign from the semi-finals. They will need a win to win their first medal at the World Cup. Jadhav was trailing by one point after the first set as the 40-year-old Damsbo started with three perfect 10s.

But the Indian player scored a perfect 30 in the second set while Damsbo could only score 27. This helped Jadhav gain an overall lead of 59-57. There was no looking back after this as Jadhav lost only two points from his last nine arrows to seal a memorable three-point win. Jadhav had defeated compatriot Abhishek Verma in the first round, Germany’s Reuven Fluss in the pre-quarterfinals and 2022 world champion Nico Wiener of Austria in a shoot-off in the quarterfinals. However, in the semi-finals he had to face defeat by one point to the current world champion Nicolas Girard of France.
