Mumbai Cricket Association: Bombay High Court has made a strict comment on the issue of dirt and cockroaches and flies being found in the kitchen of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). During the hearing, the court jokingly asked whether the players knew that they were drinking ‘non-veg tea’? This comment of the court was regarding the poor hygiene condition in the kitchen of MCA.
The bench of Acting Chief Justice Ravindra Ghughe and Justice Gautam Ankhar was hearing the MCA’s petition, in which the FDA’s decision to suspend the licenses of five restaurants in the Bandra-Kurla Complex has been challenged.
Flies and cockroaches found in the kitchen
Recently, during the FDA inspection, a large number of cockroaches and flies were found in the kitchens of these MCA restaurants. The floor was also found dirty. After this, the Food and Drug Administration suspended the licenses of all five restaurants.
Senior advocate Vikram Nankani, appearing for MCA, argued that improvement notice should have been given before suspending the license. He said that due to the kitchen being closed, the cricketers coming to the field are not even able to get tea.
Inspection will take place again on 27th August
The court said that if the inspection finds violation of food safety and hygiene rules, then the FDA can immediately suspend the license. For this, it is not necessary to give improvement notice first in every case.
However, the court allowed MCA to install vending machines to provide tea and coffee to the players.
Court praised FDA’s action
Appreciating the action of FDA, the bench said that it is necessary to ensure food safety and hygiene. The court has directed the FDA to re-inspect the five kitchens of MCA on August 27. The next hearing of the case will be on August 29.
The court also made it clear that if the restaurants correct the deficiencies, the license suspension cannot continue indefinitely. The objective of the FDA is to correct the deficiencies and when the objective is accomplished, reinstatement of the license should be considered.
