Arjun Tendulkar, the son of legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar, was not included in Goa’s squad for the Ranji Trophy 2026-27. The new season of the premier domestic tournament will start on October 11, and Goa will face Baroda in their Elite Group A match at the Bhausaheb Bandodkar Ground.
In the 16-member team announced on October 9, the selectors didn’t name all-rounder Arjun. He made his Ranji Trophy debut for Goa in 2022 and scored a hundred in his first match. His father, Sachin, had also amassed a hundred on his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai in 1987.
Abhinav Tejrana is the captain of Goa for this season, and the team also features Lalit Yadav, who was part of Delhi and Suyash Prabhudesai, who represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League.
The 27-year-old Arjun, who plays for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, last played a Ranji Trophy match for Goa against Kerala in February this year. He scored 36 and 24 across two innings. Arjun took two wickets in the first innings but didn’t bowl in the second essay.
He has played 24 first-class matches, amassing 685 runs and picking up 52 wickets. Apart from smashing a hundred, he has posted a couple of fifties. His best bowling figures in red-ball cricket are 5 for 25.
Umesh Yadav to play for Punjab
Team India pacer Umesh Yadav will compete for Punjab in this year’s edition of the Ranji Trophy. He has been named in the Punjab squad for their campaign opener against Assam in New Chandigarh starting October 11. In 124 first-class matches, Umesh has taken 380 wickets.
