Road accident in Fatehgarh Sahib, seven devotees died after the bus collided with a pillar and overturned.
Chandigarh. Seven devotees were killed while 21 others were injured in a tragic road accident that took place late Tuesday night in Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab. All the devotees were returning after attending a religious program organized at Anandpur Sahib on the occasion of Baisakhi.
According to the information, about 40 people were traveling in the bus that met with the accident, most of whom had to get down at village Mainmajra. When the bus reached near Himmatpura village, suddenly a technical fault occurred and it overturned after hitting a pillar. Some of the injured have expressed apprehension that after the collision, electric current also spread in the bus, due to which the damage increased further.
There was chaos at the spot after the accident. Local villagers immediately started rescue operations and informed the police. Police and relief teams rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, where 12 were admitted to Morinda and 9 to Fatehgarh Sahib. The seriously injured have been referred to PGI Hospital, Chandigarh.
The dead include five people from the same village and two real brothers. The deceased have been identified as Jagwinder Singh, Iqbal Singh, Lakhbir Singh, Harveer Singh, Pardeep Kaur, Ranjit Kaur and Kulwinder Singh.
Narendra Modi and CP Radhakrishnan have expressed deep grief over this accident. Both the leaders expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. Police have registered the case and started investigating the cause of the accident.
