13 people killed in explosion at firecracker factory in Thrissur, Kerala
Thrissur: 13 people were killed and several others injured in a massive explosion at a firecracker factory in Thrissur district of Kerala. The accident occurred when the firecrackers were being prepared by Thiruvambadi Group for Thrissur Pooram. The explosion was so strong that its sound was heard several kilometers away and people nearby first thought it was an earthquake. After the incident, fire and dense smoke spread in the entire area, due to which relief and rescue operations were hampered.
13 people were evacuated safely from the spot
As soon as information about the accident was received, police, fire brigade, rescue team and ambulance reached the spot. The injured were immediately admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Thrissur and other nearby hospitals. According to Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), according to preliminary information, 13 people have been safely evacuated from the spot after the accident. Many of the injured were in critical condition and were admitted to the ICU. Two people are admitted in the hospital ward, while 17 people have suffered minor injuries.
PM expressed grief over the accident, announced compensation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and property in the massive fire in the firecracker factory. The message issued by the PMO on X said, ‘I am saddened by the loss of life and property in the accident at a firecracker factory in Thrissur. My deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured people. Along with this, the Prime Minister has also announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased and the injured. The families of each deceased will be given Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, while the injured will be given an assistance of Rs 50,000.
