IPL betting gang busted, 15 arrested – lakhs of rupees in cash recovered and bank accounts frozen

Auraiya. Taking major action in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh, the police have busted an organized gang involved in betting on IPL matches. A total of 15 accused were arrested in the joint action of police station, SWAT and surveillance team.

According to the police, this gang was operating online betting and gambling on IPL matches for a long time. The accused used to carry out this illegal business by hiding in rented houses due to the fear of being caught in the open. Based on the information, raids were conducted and all the accused were arrested red handed.

During the operation, Rs 6,04,000 in cash, 52 playing cards, 16 Android mobile phones and one keypad mobile were recovered from the possession of the accused. Apart from this, the amount of Rs 3,61,261 present in 12 bank accounts revealed in the investigation has also been frozen.

Interrogation revealed that the accused were running a betting network through an online link named 1EX99. Transactions worth lakhs of rupees were being done by the main accused through different IDs. Some of the gang members also had prior gambling-related criminal records.

Superintendent of Police Abhishek Bharti said that the police have registered a case against all the accused under relevant sections and an in-depth investigation of the entire network is going on. This action is being considered a major success against illegal betting business.
