Ranchi. Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni continues to be the highest individual income tax payer in the Bihar and Jharkhand region. Due to their income and business investments they top the list every year.
Principal Chief Income Tax Commissioner of Jharkhand and Bihar D Sudhakar Rao gave this information in a press conference in Ranchi on Thursday. He told that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the biggest individual tax payer in Jharkhand-Bihar, but the information about the amount of tax paid by him cannot be given.
Answering the questions of journalists, he said that during the last financial year, raids were conducted against 12 business groups in cases of tax evasion. More than 150 different traders were involved.
The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax said that a total of more than 90 cases have been filed in Jharkhand and Bihar against different individuals and businessmen related to tax evasion and non-payment of taxes, but he refused to give information about the names of business groups or people related to it.
It is noteworthy that in Jharkhand and Bihar, the highest tax is received from Jharkhand. Against last year’s annual target of Rs 20 thousand, Rs 12 thousand crore was received from Jharkhand and Rs 8 thousand crore was received from Bihar. In Jharkhand and Bihar, tax is deposited by filing income tax returns on behalf of a total of 40 lakh people, while the number of PAN card holders in both the states is around five crore.
