DFS Secretary reviews performance of public sector banks for 2025-26

New Delhi. Public sector banks (PSBs) achieved the highest ever net profit of Rs 1.98 lakh crore in FY 2025–26, with total business growing by 12.8 per cent to Rs 283.3 lakh crore.

The Finance Ministry said in a statement that Department of Financial Services (DFS) Secretary M. Nagaraju on Friday assessed the comprehensive performance of public sector banks at a meeting held to review their strong performance in New Delhi.

According to the Ministry, M. Nagaraju, Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS), today chaired a review meeting of Public Sector Banks (PSBs) to assess their performance and progress in the areas of key operational, financial and strategic priorities during the financial year 2025-26.

According to the Finance Ministry, the highlights of the performance in this review meeting include that PSBs have earned the highest ever net profit of Rs 1.98 lakh crore in the financial year 2025-26, while the total business of banks reached Rs 283 lakh crore in this financial year, while GNPA remained at its historically lowest level of 1.93 per cent.

According to the ministry, a ‘coffee table book’ titled “Your Capital, Your Rights” was released during the review meeting, which highlights the nationwide efforts being made to trace and recover unclaimed financial assets.

Along with this, a new website of DFS with multilingual and accessibility features was also launched with the aim of improving citizen engagement and dissemination of information.

According to the Finance Ministry, the meeting was attended by Special Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, senior officers of DFS, Chairman of State Bank of India, Managing Directors and Chief Executive Officers and Executive Directors of Public Sector Banks.
