Muzaffarpur. So far four people have died due to a sudden fire that broke out in the ICU at Prasad Hospital under Brahmpura police station area of Muzaffarpur city in Bihar at 3 am on Thursday. More than 20 people have suffered serious burns.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kantesh Mishra has confirmed this. He said that the rescue operation is going on. According to eyewitnesses, as soon as the fire broke out, there was screams among the patients admitted in the hospital and their families.
The relief and rescue team had to work hard to take out the patients present in the ICU. Within no time the smoke spread throughout the hospital. As soon as the information was received, about a dozen vehicles of the fire department arrived.
Fire brigade personnel immediately started the rescue operation and tried to safely rescue the patients trapped in various wards of the hospital. Many patients were taken out by breaking windows and doors. After this he was admitted to nearby safe hospitals.
According to fire department officials, information about the fire was received at around 3 in the morning. When the team reached the hospital, the ICU ward was filled with smoke. Many patients were evacuated in critical condition during the rescue operation.
Officials say that more than 20 people were rescued safely during the relief work. The condition of many patients is worrying. In the initial investigation, short circuit is believed to be the cause of the fire. The administration has started the process of gathering evidence by cordoning off the hospital premises.
Fire officials have also indicated that most of the hospital staff were not present when their team reached the spot. This fact has raised serious questions on the responsibility and security arrangements of the hospital management.
